On December 30th, 2022, NGO INNOVARTE, as the last activity of the year, submitted a letter addressed to the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, to present him with different proposals elaborated by Civil Society for a better implementation of the WHO COVID-19 Technology Access Pool (C-TAP).
In the letter, NGO INNOVARTE took the opportunity to make a presentation of the work the organization has done since 2020 in promoting and strengthening the WHO platform in order to undermine inequity in access to medical technologies against COVID-19.
The purpose of the letter was to convey the proposals elaborated by the Civil Society and recently published by the WEMOS Organization in their report «Make pooling work to end pandemics: A qualitative analysis of the COVID-19 Technology Access Pool».
Among these proposals is the need for C-TAP to carry out more outreach and information actions with research centers and technology holders. They should also play a more active role in encouraging governments to create public policies aimed at supporting this type of collaborative mechanisms and transparent and non-exclusive licensing, especially in those cases where technology development has received public funding.
