On July 9th, in Geneva, Innovarte NGO intervened in the 65th series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO, highlighting the initiative from Colombia and other countries of the TRIPS Council that called for a data-driven review of the effects of WTO intellectual property agreements. We urged WIPO to initiate a process complementary to the work of the TRIPS Council.

We also emphasized the relevance of transparency regarding licensing conditions and the implementation of intellectual property rights, both for copyrights and industrial rights.

Regarding the Copyright Committee, we stressed the need to broaden the mandate on Exceptions and Limitations to adopt appropriate international legal instruments for libraries, education, research, and individuals with disabilities.

Lastly, concerning broadcasting rights, we requested that the focus be placed on creating a framework based on signal protection.

The 65th series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO will take place from July 9 to 17, 2024, in Geneva, with the participation of approximately 1,400 delegates, including nearly 20 ministers from WIPO member states, which marks the highest number in history.

Delegates will review the work carried out by the Secretariat over the past year and determine future activities in accordance with the strategic direction of WIPO approved by member states in 2022. They will also examine WIPO treaties, which form the backbone of the global intellectual property ecosystem supporting creators and innovators worldwide. Review Innovarte’s intervention:
